Weekend on the Yorke Peninsula

We have been making the most our weekends lately....heading off camping every chance we get.
This last weekend we re-visited the Yorke Peninsula....we have travelled there many times over the years....but it had been awhile since we were there last.
Friday night we travelled as far as Wallaroo....

Then we were up bright and early for a  look around.....and a delicious coffee from Cafe Mia on the foreshore... what I didn't realise until I got home and was talking to a friend ...was that I knew the owners of the Cafe ...what a shame they weren't there when we called in.

We then drove on to Moonta ..... we browsed the shops...and bought a Cornish pastie for lunch..

We then headed on down the Peninsular toward Innes National Park.
We called in at each little town along the way to break the trip.
It was such a nice drive....lovely lush and green.....and following the coast.

We made it into the National park in time to set up camp for the night....
We had a nice sheltered spot.... with the camp ground all to ourselves.
We sat by the campfire watching a DVD on the portable DVD played until it went flat then tucked up in our warm bed for the night.
It was so peaceful....with just the sound of crushing waves in the background.

The next morning we stopped at a few spots within the park before starting the trip home again....
First stop was the old historic ruins of Inneston.... site of the first Bellco chalk factory.

Then into the lighthouse before we headed out of the park and toward home.

We stopped in and surprised Mum and Dad Winen on the way home.... another lovely little highlight of our weekend.
It was such a shame it was all over so quickly.
I wonder where we will head off camping to next.

  1. Mardi it looks wonderful. It's so nice that you and Ian can take off like this. We are about to head off on a little adventure with our gang. I don't think it will be as peaceful as yours ;)
So lovely you were able to see your parents too Mardi. Always a joy to read your blog.

  2. Hi Mardi,
Looks like you had a fantastic weekend on the YP!
We have quite a bit of family over that way also.
If your looking for a nice camping spot for your next journey - look up Hillocks Drive, it is just beautiful and plenty of spaces to camp :)

  7. My family are from Point Pearce and I have stayed on the Yorke Peninsula every year of my life since birth...even since living in Sydney for 8 years. Frankly, it's a little flat and ugly compared to much of the East Coast of NSW but I love it, it's home.
