December Daily album 2012

31 December 2012

I must admit I haven't scrapped much this year..and I've missed it.
I am SO glad that I got my act together and scrapped my Christmas album again though.
It was only after dragging out all my previous ones that I realised I couldn't possibly let this tradition slip away.....of all the mini books I've made.... these are without doubt the most  loved ....the kids flip through them over and over again.
So 2012 was my fifth year of a December Daily album.....
and as you can see...
we have quite a nice stack of albums growing.

This year I tackled it  little differently...
I chose to scrap 25 memories / events rather than specific days.
I found this much easier....it seemed to simplify the process...and it meant I could catch up on pages whenever I wished rather than having to record and snap photos every single day.
It also meant I could plan out my 25 pages in advance...I made myself a list of things I wanted to include.. and then it was simple to just plod along with it whenever I had some time.

Also this year... I chose to scrap directly into an old readers digest condensed novel book...... not only did it have the sweetest bound cover....but I was able to add my photos directly to the book pages.  This book also had some scattered illustrations....so I used them as an advantage and allowed some of them to peek through as well.
I kept everything about this album simple....
I simplified my approach....
I used a book that needed very little preparation....and was low cost ... $1.00 from the Op shop.
I used up tags and products left over from previous years.... and I did something I usually never do....I stuck to one collection kit of coordinated papers.

Talk about simple....
All my papers match....
My book is already to go....
I am using up my excess tag stash...
and I have no stress about what to scrap each day....its all planned out in advance.
Plus....the mere fact I'm scrapping at all is excitement enough for me....there is no pressure to create anything ground breaking.... I'm just chuffed to get my photos and memories all stuck down in one place.
So here are a few peeks of my pages....

 So there it is....
Done and dusted....
A book full of memories....that I am so glad I took the time to scrap.

I learnt a few things along the way....
I needed to have pulled out a lot more pages as I progressed with it.
I did pull out what I thought was a lot..... but now its finished I realise just how fat it became.

I also made a mental note that my photo collages were a little too small.....
This small size album / book seems far more suited to a nice large 6x4 photo.

How did yours finish up this year??

  7. Oh Mardi it's gorgeous. And I love that you did 25 memories this time. I also did my first album in 2008 but I haven't done another one since! LOL. I'm thinking I will do one next Christmas, which will be 5 years later.

Yes I must have pulled out half the pages in the book I altered for mum and dad for their Alaskan trip! I'm going to do a similar album for our NZ trip and have my book all good to go. But I haven't started looking at photos! Your album has inspired me in style tho!

    1. haha....well two a decade isnt too bad a strike rate!!
They are time consuming....but so great once they are done hey.

You know what....I think perhaps it was your parents Alaskan album that planted the seed for my album. I remember now how much I loved that...and the idea of it.

Looking forward to seeing your NZ album once its done.

    1. Awww thanks Meredith....
I reckon getting organised is half the battle.
Once I had my photos planned...printed...and an outline of what I wanted to do on each day it just fell into place really quickly.
looking forward to seeing yours finished too...

  16. This turned out BEAUTIFULLY Mardi!!!!!!!! I love it. And I love the fact you did 25 memories and not the photo a day thing. I think that feels much more manageable. As you know I have struggled with mine and I am still fluffing around with it! You have inspired me to get on with it, print those final photos and get it done!

I love the photo collages and catching up with what you got up to in December.

  17. Mardi I adore this and hope to do the same if I can bring myself to tear out the pages. Whenever I read your posts and look at the pics of your lovely family and those grand babies of yours...the saying about taking a village to raise a child always springs to mind. They are so tiny and don't know it yet but they have so many people loving them and being a part of their life. I love the pic of Mitch pushing the pram. Great tshirt too Mitch!
